PRESS RELEASE: Anthony P. Johnson announces candidacy for State Representative

Anthony P. Johnson of Juniata Park officially announced his candidacy for State Representative for the 42nd Ward & 180th District. Over 30 supporters attended the gathering where Johnson pledged to take the following action if elected as the community’s State Representative:

• Secure funding and push for neighborhood patrols.

• Address crime in the community by increasing police patrol,
creating stricter penalties for drug dealers, pedophiles,
and violent gangs.

• Provide more police/increase presence in our neighborhoods as well
as build a positive relationship between residents and the police
through Qa series of workshops and other activities.

• Provide the community with Literacy and GED programs.

• Partner with local food markets, pharmacies, and retail stores to
hire residents that support these businesses as loyal customers to
decrease unemployment and poverty.

• Obtain state/federal funding for existing quality and new grass
root after school programs that is essential to the academic and
social growth of our children.

• Re-implement extracurricular activities back into the public
schools in our communities.

• Implement effective recreation centers in the communities.

Johnson, a Human Services lead instructor in a post-secondary school in Philadelphia and founder and director of Dream Field Academy providing mentoring and educational enhancement to at-risk youth in Juniata, also stated that he will do everything humanly possible to turn the tide of government-neglected problems in the neighborhood. He told the audience, “We need to be role models to our youth and protectors of our senior citizens by showing them that we care enough to devote our time and efforts to make a difference in their lives. This isn't about politics at all--this is about ‘human caring’ at its best.”

Johnson is leading a grass-roots campaign to protest the lack of government responses to the issues of the neighborhood. “Our community is plagued by unemployment, high-school students dropping out, violence on the streets, and drug dealers intimidating the good people who want a positive quality of life here. The current politicians have brought nothing to our area. It is time for us to stand together as unified citizens and demand better for our families and future generations. I am not a politician—I am a Human Services professional who is dedicated to changing the quality of life for the people in this community.” Johnson has been the neighborhood block captain for over two years responding immediately to the problems of the neighbors by working closely with the local police department.

Johnson is disgusted over the lack of services provided for Juniata. As a resident and father, he wants his son to grow up without the worry of being a victim of violent gang crime or drive-by shootings. He explained, “Our current elected officials are politicians. They are more concerned with their needs than the community’s. I am the ‘un-politician,’ but I am a community activist. I want our residents to join together to demand the services that our community is overlooked for. We will not be divided by ethnicity or culture—we will unite together as people who want to live in peace and without fear. I will truly represent the people who live here, and together we will rebuild a neighborhood where our families can be proud to live.”

A number of community organizations have already endorsed Johnson for the upcoming election. He will be visiting every home in the community to talk about the issues that are important to them. In addition to being a community activist, he is also a Ph.D. candidate and author.

So you likened yourself to the Israeli Nazi Hunters? You stated that you’re going to be a “progressive hunter?” Well look no further. I am an “Ultra” Progressive. Do you think Progressives are afraid of you? You!

You compare yourself to individuals that possessed intelligence, patience and a passion to see justice rule the day when they hunted, captured and prosecuted Nazis. They hunted down sadistic and monstrous murderers who gleefully and systematically murdered innocent women, children and men for no other reason than being a Jew. Are they the ones you’re comparing Progressive to? You’re comparing Progressives to Nazis?

It is obvious that you’re lacking in the department of intelligence. The fact that you would equate yourself to individuals of courage, wisdom, and integrity is an “absolute farce.”

Glenn Beck, you’re a “humorless” comedian, an “intelligent simpleton” and a by-product of the dark side of the human conscious. To compare Progressives to Nazis merely highlights the brevity of your stupidity, and yet you continue to talk about world historical events that you know absolutely nothing about.

A fool-hearted, weak, imbecile with the media at his disposal is a danger to human civilization.

When you stated the earthquake occurred in Haiti because according to you, the inhabitants, "Made a pact with the devil," you highlighted the depth of your "ignorance and stupidity" to heights that would have astonished Sigmund Freud.

"An American Embarrassment with A Million Dollar Bank Account."

Rush Limbaugh,

You are a racist and a coward. You are the epitome of why the world vilifies our great country.

At a time when even America's adversaries have tabled their disdain and provided aid to Haiti, you continue to spew "vile" lies at full throttle.

Your "hatred" for President Obama and people of color is in full view of the world so that people finally can see you for what you are--an "American embarrassment with a million dollar bank account."

“Like Comparing Ivan the Terrible to Swipper the Fox.”

He made a mistake and he apologized.

Senator Harry Reid made a comment about then Senator Barack Obama which many Americans view as racist. Senator Reid has since publically and privately apologized for his remarks to current President Obama who emphatically accepted.

Some in the media and career politicians likened Harry Reid's comments to Trent Lott's divisive separatist rhetoric back in 2004 while honoring the 100th birthday of Strom Thurmond. Trent Lott is a "racist" pure and simple, and comparing the two would be like comparing Ivan the Terrible to Swipper the Fox from “Dora the Explorer.”

Will the stench of racism and prejudice ever dissipate in America? Never!
No matter how many conversations we have and policies implemented to combat this disease, it will always be a part of the American landscape.

To be blunt, racism and prejudice is as American as apple pie, the Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore, the KKK, the Sons of Liberty, the Daughters of Liberty and Tea Baggers. Quite frankly, in some families racism and prejudice are a family tradition.

In 2008, with the election of America’s first and I hope not the last African American President, many Americans hoped that the stain of racism was finally wiped clean from the American fabric. Alas, if anything since the election of President Obama, the stain has mushroomed into an international eye sore.

When a career politician like Michael Steele, who’s quoted as saying something “stupid” with perfect regularity just a few days ago when he made a racist comment about Native Americans demands that Reid step down because of his statement, it magnifies how racism and prejudice are woven into our daily lives.

Senator Reid made mistake, and he apologized for it.

Whether we use racial and prejudiced charged ideology privately or publicly, only when humankind ceases to exist will racism and prejudice cease to exist. Until that day, one cannot exist without the other.

"Will the Leaders Finally Come Home?"

You have the million dollar buildings located in impoverished communities, and in some instances, one on every corner but you reside outside the city. The neighborhoods that you serve are drowning in a myriad of problems including unemployment, living at or below the poverty line, increasing teen violence, teen pregnancy, and teens dropping out of school by 8th grade, illiteracy and senior citizens who are afraid to leave their homes for fear of being victims of a crime in a lawless society. You do little or nothing at all to offer effective solutions to improve the quality of life for the people you represent.

Will the leaders come home?

You claim you want to serve your community as an elected official because the community you reside in is impoverished and bereft with violence, and yet once elected, you relocate so far from the community that residents have to put out a missing person's report to locate you. When you do return to the place that you promised to serve, the visits are so infrequent that your constituents hardly recognize you.

Will the leaders come home?

Just visiting the community you're invested in that demands effective leadership is not enough. People don't follow big buildings, fancy cars, clothes and hollow promises--they follow courage, strength, compassion, integrity, and loyalty.

We're concerned about our children because their role models are the drug dealers, the pimps, and the carjackers. But where are the ministers, the priests, rabbis, the elected officials, the entrepreneurs, the attorneys, and the doctors to guide them to be productive servants for humankind?

Will the leaders come home?

Our broken communities have been degraded, fleeced, overlooked by politicians, and finally, abandoned by those that were suppose to motivate, empower, and be the beacon of light that the youth, adults, senior citizens, and families need. And so we continue to wait. We wait but for how much longer?

Will the leaders finally come home?

"Vote Not for Ethnicity…Vote for Effective Change."

HAPPY NEW YEAR Citizens of the 42nd Ward/180th District.

Whether you are Black, Irish, Latino, Italian, Asian, or Jewish, and whether you attend a church, mosque, or a synagogue, here's an important message for you.

When you vote for your next state representative from the 42nd Ward/180th District in November 2010, vote for the candidate that will bring effective change to the community. Elect the candidate that will address and effectively reduce the crime that permeates our neighborhoods threatening the safety and security of our loved ones and neighbors. Elect an individual that will provide and will enhance the children's future as well as adults' by creating mentoring, education, and tutoring programs. Elect an individual that will listen to your input individually and as a community.

Don't elect a candidate based on ethnicity; vote for a candidate that offers and will bring effective change to the 42nd Ward/180th District. We can be the outcome for a brighter future. Let's come together and make it blossom!
